Los Angeles
February 24 – March 1

Thanks to Nikki, Sita, Sierra, Noel, Jennifer, Matt (SHOTGUN), Mary Jo, Agape, and Tonic Bar for a great time in LA.

I caught the Vortex of Love at Agape International and the Reverend Michael Beckwith is thinking of rap-preaching some of his incredible spoken words on my “Vortex of Love” tracks.

The Inn at the Seventh Ray, in Topanga Canyon, was a fabulous dinner setting. Santa Monica Beach poured down sunshine for this frozen Minnesota boy, and the full moon displayed its moon dog circles. Old school Hollywood trek last night was amazing: El Compadre – Rainbow Room – Mexico!

Meeting many talented people in this entertainment empire. Its interesting where networking and connective-ness may take you.

Nikki designed an oldNfunky.com card, with the tagline ‘sustainable music’; which I love and will use. It’s been helpful to get the LA-line on the oldNfunky concept, while working the Digital Symphonix angle with music for film and commercials.

It was a great morning today at Dik Shopteau’s Institute of Production and Recording vocal-recording class in downtown Minneapolis. I never knew what it was back in the day, but I was an early beat-boxer, playing the drums on the microphone with my mouth and voice. Today, we decided to record all vocal tracks to mimic bass, drums, guitar, noises, and then add the singing vocals on top. It was dangerous, but fun! The students were into it and it was a blast.

The song, “The Vortex of Love”, is a hippie-modern spiritual about proclaiming hope and love. The song was strongly inspired by the LA-Agape minister, Reverend Michael Beckwith and the beautiful people there. I can’t wait until he hears it.

I have recorded a number of my vocal tracks for the new album at IPR. The students offer great input and encouragement, and I am forever thankful for the early morning sessions that have produced some fun and hard-working vocal tracks.

Getting closer to the finish line! Looking forward to adding more guitar tracks with the amazing Deevo. Thanks again to everyone that has helped me with this project with gracious response and ideas!!

Thanks to all my friends, family, music-buds, and any fans out there!! This is my first blog as "oldNfunky" and it's kinda fun to just write about the ABSOLUTE crazy time this is, when you are trying to finish a "record" of where you are, what you do, and how people and music have impacted your life, humanity, spirituality, and love...and when so many are involved in the process (when you ask them - and my GOD, I did - and they sure told me!!) collaborating with Axel Schneider (Digitalsymphonix), Kyle Wood, and Dan Kusz (and all their friends)...amazing artists and absolute talents in writing, arranging, playing - HELLO peeps and there over 700 days into this bedlam (try to stop me now) so imagine: you are 57 and have played, performed, recorded, and whatever, since you were 11 years of age, AND people encouraged you............WHAT? and still DO!...that is trouble to the 2 0 1 0 and what everyone says, and how they respond really resonates and then the process begins:

1 - Idea (be oldandfunky, because you are)
2 - Collaborate with all new people (and younger)
3 - Test it with everyone (even those that don't want to - you may get a reality check on that! and I did) find out it's 15-30+ and keep the "schmaltzy songs" because most people love the "LOVE Songs"
4 - Be obnoxious about presenting your STUFF (and suffer the consequences) I have, but I don't believe I ever hurt anyone in my obno-icity
5 - Believe your own bad self and your bad stuff - please tell me why not?
6 - Have your son "mattmcloone.com photography" do your photos and videos and wait until hell freezes over to ask him to try "one more deal, sonny boy" the sun comes out tomorrow
7 - Add one more song on February 9, 2010, when the completed tacks and recordings are finished (don't tell Axel, please) and the insanity prevails...and oNf gets closer to the ??????

LATER
